About Vapor Rub
Vapor rub is a cooling chest rub invented in the 20th century by Lunsford Richardson. The main ingredients of the vapor rub included dead shot vermifuge, castor oil, and liniment. The Vapor rub gained popularity in 1918, increasing sales to about $2.9 million from a mere $900,000 in a single year. In 1931, the business started promoting cough drops. In 1948, Edward Mabry became president of the company, now referred to as the Vick Chemical Company. In 1952, Vicks started to sell cough syrup, and in 1959 they launched the Nasal Spray.
The organization started promoting NyQuil in 1966. The parent company became Richardson Merrell, after which in 1982 divided into prescription drug business Merrell Dow and over-the-counter drug company Richardson Vicks that reserved the Vicks brand name. In 1985, it was offered to Gamble, and Procter and Gamble and Procter have since promoted the item as "The only thing better compared to a mother 's touch."
